Commemorative Coin for the One Hundred (100) Years of the Colombian Air Force - In Circulation as of 04 April 2022
Banco de la República (the Central Bank of Colombia), in accordance with Law 1956 of 04 June 2019, issued, for commemorative purposes and for one time only, the One Hundred (100) years of the Colombian Air Force (FAC in Spanish) coin.
The obverse of the coin shows the FAC’s first training aircraft, Caudron G3. These aircraft arrived in February 1921 to Flandes (Tolima), the birthplace of the first Colombian aviation school. It also includes the cockade image, a military aeronautical emblem used universally by the different air forces as a distinctive feature to indicate the aircraft’s nationality.
The reverse side of the coin shows the FAC’s coat of arms, whose image has the eagle of Gules, the emblem of aviation, and includes the Latin legend “SIC ITUR AD ASTRA,” which means: “Thus one goes to the stars.”

The commemorative coin, which has a face value of COP$10,000, is of legal tender and may be used for any monetary transaction for the equivalent of its face value. This coin is silver-colored (copper and nickel alloy), has a diameter of 35 millimeters, and weighs 21.75 grams. The coin is delivered with a foldout containing information about its features.
