Starting in July, Users of the Financial Sector will be able to register their Bre-B Aliases through various Channels provided by Institutions
Starting in July 2025, the way in which transfers and instant payments are made in the Colombian financial system will be transformed thanks to the launch of Bre-B. This system will enable full interoperability in the country by allowing transactions to be conducted to and from any financial institution.
Currently, more than 70% of Colombians still make their payments in cash, while electronic transfers do not exceed 15% of the national spectrum. The introduction of Bre-B will promote the use of deposit products.
One of the objectives of Bre-B is to enable citizens to make payments and transfers within seconds, following just a few steps and regardless of the day or time. This instant payment service will be provided by banks, cooperatives, and other institutions throughout Colombia, featuring a distinctive sign that will identify the Bre-B system in their applications, websites, and other channels.
Instant payment systems such as em lang="es">Bre-B have been implemented in several countries in the region such as PIX (Brazil), Transferencias 3.0 (Argentina) or SINPE (Costa Rica), to cite a few successful examples, most of which were driven by the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. According to data from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), this period accelerated digital financial inclusion globally.
Registrations or aliases for using Bre-B will be enabled at the beginning of the second half of the year, in July. After this process, it will be available to citizens starting in September. This will apply to all Colombians, regardless of the region in which they live and of the financial institution of their choice, which will allow them to send and receive payments to any recipient in real time.
