This volume gathers several texts on the economic situation of the Nueva Granada in the final years of the colonial period. Economics was not yet an independent discipline, and these documents were written, as well as those by other Spanish or American financial experts at the time, to comply with bureaucratic requirements or as a response to practical concerns. This does not reduce their interest, however. These texts present the first efforts of economic analysis in our country, while allowing to obtain a picture of the real problems faced by traders, farmers, consumers, or officers concerned about product supply, the costs of trade, and the impact of taxes, monopolies, and regulations.
