IN BUENAVENTURA, BANCO DE LA REPÚBLICA PRESENTS THE BOOK ESTUDIOS SOCIALES DEL PACÍFICO COLOMBIANO

The book launch for Estudios sociales del Pacífico colombiano took place on Tuesday, 30 January 2018 at 6:00 pm, in the new Cultural Center of Buenaventura. This publication was edited by Luis Armando Galvis, researcher of the Center for Regional Economic Studies (in Spanish, Centro de Estudios Económicos Regionales - CEER).
In attendance were the Board Members Ana Fernanda Maiguashca, Adolfo Meisel and Juan Pablo Zárate; Jaime Bonet, Governor of Banco de la Republica´s branch in Cartagena; and Luis Armando Galvis, editor.
This is the second book of the Collection of Regional Economy (Colección de Economía Regional in Spanish) dedicated to the study of the Pacific region. It analyzes six areas related to social aspects such as population, poverty, social mobility, nutrition, employment quality, and rights over community territories.
The editor points out that “each chapter emphasizes relevant aspects in overcoming the persistence of regional gaps that are generated when one territory lags behind and is not able to create mechanisms to incentivize the formation of human capital, improve its health conditions, promote sources of work, and energize the generation of product and material wealth. It is on these points that attention must be focused in order to break the vicious cycle of poverty.”
