Banco de la República presents the new edition of the book Colombia Cafetera

The new edition of the book Colombia Cafetera will be presented on Thursday, June 15, 2017, at 5:00 p.m., at Banco de la República's Cultural Center in Manizales located at Carrera 23 # 23-06. The event will open with a speech by the Governor of the Central Bank of Colombia, Mr. Juan José Echavarría Soto.

The work, written in 1927 by the Antioqueño engineer Diego Monsalve, who spent four years in its research, gives an overview of the nation in the 1920s and provides the reader with sections on history, demography, geography, geology, transport, institutional and legal framework, education, health, trade, banking, industry, external sector, and international relations. The foreword to this new edition was written by economist Diego Pizano.

During the presentation, the Governor of Banco de la República will highlight that this work has become an important source for economic researchers who wish to analyze this period in the history of Colombia thanks to its rigorous analysis and the data it presents.

Despite its importance, the work has only been available at large public libraries or at university libraries. Considering this, the Central Bank’s Bicentennial Committee decided to publish a new edition, launched to the public today. It will also be available at http://www.banrep.gov.co/es/libros.
