Banco de la República started circulating the 5 thousand-peso banknote, the fourth of the new family, on 9 November 2016.

  • Some geometric figures and patterns, micro-texts and the Burgao snail fluoresce in orange and green.

The poet José Asunción Silva, the Colombian paramos, a puya plant and a bee are the image of the new banknote. This banknote will circulate simultaneously with the current one.
